Oasis is Canadian, eh! |
|
|

|
|
|
Oasis, a close-harmony vocal jazz ensemble based in Toronto, Canada, has been in existence since 1985, longer than that other group of the same name! |
|
|
We sing pop, classical, Broadway and 'world music', but our chief interest is vocal jazz. Our tight vocal blend is always up front, whether we're performing an a cappella song or being backed by a jazz ensemble. |

|
Who is this Oasis?
Our Musical Director is a professional musician, but the rest of us have non-singing careers as teachers, lawyers, account reps, managers, computer professionals, even an actuary! Our personal backgrounds are similarly diverse - suburban working moms, urban gays, and everything in between. Musically, we range from 'dabblers' without formal musical training to some whose original music has been performed by other groups. |

Cool! Where can I hear Oasis?
Our performances each year include:
- a show during ARTSweek, Toronto's arts celebration in the Fall;
- charity and benefit shows;
- vocal festivals;
- community events, such as Lesbian and Gay Pride Day pictured above;
- an annual "big gig" concert, featuring a selection of new songs we've learned over the year, along with a smattering of songs from previous years.
- appearances at local jazz bars;
- guest performances in concerts given by other local performers;
- open rehearsals for interested high school and college students.
Check our coming up page for details. |

What do you do with funds raised?
Individually, we do not benefit financially from Oasis. After paying bills associated with putting on a concert, the group uses what's left to buy new music or otherwise enhance our audience's experience. Ultimately, we'd like to raise enough to buy our own sound equipment.

Why do you do it?
Simply, we love to sing - we've worked hard to acquire a good sound, and we love to share that joy we feel with an audience! Also, we truly celebrate our diversity - the gay and straight women and men in the group genuinely like each other, and take pleasure from sharing the music with each other. |

What else will I find on the Oasis website?
Elsewhere on this site, you'll find:
- simple biographies of the singers and musicians in the group;
- a history of Oasis;
- links to the websites of our friends - other entertainers and groups we've performed with;
- photos and multi-media clips of our past performances - with appropriate copyright clearance, of course;
- MOST IMPORTANTLY, a list of our upcoming gigs and open rehearsals.

If you'd like Oasis to perform at a ceremony, memorial, corporate event or charity function, or if your high school/college vocal jazz group wants to sing with us on an "open" rehearsal night, we'd love to hear from you. E-Mail us at [email protected]. And we hope to see you at our next concert! No matter what your interest in Oasis, we're thrilled you've chosen to visit our site!
Be sure to come back often! |
